The end of an Era

Updated: Mar 29

Maybe dramatic...

But it feels dramatic or drastic as I am breaking up with my fitness watch after almost 10 years

Honestly, it feels a bit like a break up.

Especially if you see the tan line its left behind

Over the last few years my health has shifted noticing it mentally this last year, maybe I’ll go a bit more into detail on my health later.

Ultimately the reason I had to break up with the fitness watch....

I saw old diet patterns creep in and I felt it becoming unhealthy.

It use to be all or nothing for me.

For years I used to exercise MORE and eat less just to experience the perfect number on the scale.

I’d container count every single meal and if that wasn’t enough then I’d find a HIIT workout to do MORE.

The thing is it worked for years until it no longer did.

In that season I learned how to care for my body out of desperation for what I thought confidence stood for.

So over the last decade I have been unraveling how to care for my body.

Ultimately caring for my body in a way that is able to care for my entire family instead of just a number.

Now as I step into a new chapter, really focusing on healing and growing in confidence, I knew the watch had to go.

Day after day I HAD TO close my rings, increase my movement and constantly check in with how I was doing through my watch instead of how I was feeling.

I was really feeling that ALL or nothing mentality creep back in and I saw a direct correlation to my mental health instead of listening to my own body.

It’s been a process of release over the last year because I did like areas of data to back up how I was feeling but not a control of my entire life.

I wore nothing for weeks but did decide for a ring. This time not to focus any movement goal or workout unless its an increase in overall step but mostly for sleep and stress.

As a mom and woman who has genetic epilepsy, who is always working on optmizing her hormones those categories are most important to see if the habits I am doing and new things I am impementing my body is responding.

My approach this time, using it for data and thats it. KNOWING I too can get rid of it at any moment.

Most importantly I am working on becoming even more intune with my body first and using any other data second.

So if you are wearing your Apple Watch, FitBit or other fitness watch around and you feel it is dictating every single move you make.

Let it go.

See how you can start listening to your body first and foremost.

What it tells you. When to rest, when to lean in and when to listen a little longer.

Maybe God is asking you to step into a new season.

It may feel weird for a bit but I promise it is worth it.

With love,

Ashley
